YAF’s 23rd Annual Spring Event:

Brown v. Board: 70 Years Later

Friday, May 10th, 2024 6-9pm

The Charles Hotel | 1 Bennett St. | Cambridge, MA

Please join us on Friday, May 10th, from 6PM - 9PM at The Charles Hotel for an evening of inspiring speakers, awards and entertainment, and a panel discussion focusing on the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board, specifically, what has changed and what hasn’t in achieving the goal of racial equity in our schools.

Our event this year will feature a special panel discussion moderated by Emmy award-winning journalist, Crystal Haynes, who will also be our emcee for the evening. The discussion will feature Former Boston Public Schools' Chief Equity & Strategy Officer and Founder & CEO of Global Ecosytem Leadership, Dr. Charles Grandson, and Medford School Committee Member and NAACP Youth Coordinator, Aaron Olapade, and will not only discuss what has changed in the past 70 years since the landmark ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, declaring separate but equal was unconstitutional, but also what still needs to be done to work towards and achieve racial equity in our schools.

We will also hear another original poem on this year's theme from 2020-2022 Boston Youth Poet Laureate and YAF Board Member, Alondra Bobadilla. And as always, one of the highlights of the evening will be hearing from a student speaker who will share their experience working with the EdLaw Project. We look forward to sharing our new initiatives with you in what we know will be an inspiring evening!
