A recent report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics highlights the fluctuations in youth crime from 1993 to 2022, underscoring the need for balanced juvenile justice reforms. While some offense categories have seen upticks, the overall trend shows a decline in youth arrests for violent crimes and fewer youths in residential placements. This progress is attributed to community-based resources and evidence-based approaches that focus on adolescent development. By emphasizing support and opportunity, communities can foster positive development and reduce youth violence.

The Continuum of Care, a new Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) framework and funding investment, promotes prevention, intervention, treatment, and reentry strategies, aiming to keep youth out of the justice system and help them lead productive lives.

The EdLaw Project is proud to be an organization supported by OJJDP, helping support Massachusetts youth move forward in a positive direction.  Let's continue to support our youth with compassion, accountability, and access to services for a brighter future.
