READING MATTERS: Ending the Illiteracy-to-Prison Pipeline

Please join us on Friday, May 16th, from 6PM - 9PM at The Charles Hotel for an evening of inspiring speakers, awards and entertainment.

This year we are highlighting the connection between illiteracy and future incarceration. Surveys have found that 85% of incarcerated youth can’t read and about 75% of incarcerated adults are illiterate. This link between illiteracy and one’s likelihood of arrest is shocking and it can be broken.  EdLaw attorneys often represent students who have gotten to middle school or high school with only early elementary reading and writing skills.  At our event this year, we will explore this serious issue and how YAF helps to address it through a panel discussion of people at many ages and stages in life who have overcome dyslexia through advocacy.  Our Emcee will be De'Lon Grant, Broadway star and 2020-21 YAF Emcee.

And as always, one of the highlights of the evening will be hearing from some of the students who's lives have been changed by YAF and EdLaw thanks to supporters like you.
